Finishing
Sanded wood has been abraded to remove tool marks and prepare or refine the surface.
The grit sequence and final grit affect feel, colour uptake and coating adhesion. A seller should state whether sanding is preliminary or finish-ready.
Sanding does not correct major warp and does not itself protect the wood.

A wood finish is a surface treatment such as oil, wax, lacquer or varnish.
A finished surface has received its final sanding and intended protective treatment.
Rough-sawn wood retains the surface left by the saw and has not been planed smooth.
Flattening removes high areas until one broad face lies in a plane, then brings the other face parallel.
