Seasonal movement
Seasonal movement is the expansion and contraction of wood as its moisture changes with the air.
Most movement occurs across the grain, while length changes far less. Wide solid tops can move several millimetres through the year.
Use slotted fixings, suitable joints and room for movement. A hard finish cannot stop the wood from responding to humidity.
