Bark inclusion
A bark inclusion is bark trapped inside the wood as the tree grew around a fork, wound or folded area.
It can form a dark line, pocket or weak boundary between sections. Some inclusions are stable; others separate during drying or machining.
Check depth, movement and the load path around it. Filling an opening does not join weak wood by itself.
