Flat-sawn
Flat-sawn boards are cut so growth rings meet the face at a shallow angle.
They often show broad cathedral patterns and can yield wide boards efficiently. Movement across the width may be more visible than in quarter-sawn stock.
The term describes the cut, not whether the surface is flat. A flat-sawn slab may still need flattening.
