Something looks off?

Grey or dry
Oil overnight, two or three days running. Then Butter.

Too much product. Buff hard with a dry cloth.

Fuzzy after washing
Once dry, sand lightly with 240 grit. Then oil.

Stains or smells
Coarse salt and half a lemon. Rinse, dry, oil.

Small cracks
Keep it oiled. A deep crack that traps food: retire the board.
Running low?
About 15–30 applications per jar.
The Set costs €3.90 less than buying both.
Questions
Is Butter safe for food contact?
Yes, once buffed. The odourless balm contains 80% pharmaceutical-grade white mineral oil and 20% yellow beeswax by weight, with no added fragrance or colour. Mineral oil does not go rancid like olive or sunflower oil.
When should I reapply?
Apply Butter after applying wood oil or when water stops beading. Check with a few water drops, then wipe them away. Apply wood oil monthly or when the wood looks pale or dry. Apply Butter thinly and buff after a few minutes.
How do I treat a new board?
For a new board, apply wood oil 3–4 times during its first week. Use only unfinished wood or wood previously treated with oil. Let each coat soak overnight and wipe off excess oil. Finish with a thin layer of Butter and buff after a few minutes.
Which surfaces are suitable?
Apply wood oil first, then Butter. Use on unfinished wood or wood previously treated with oil: boards, thick wooden cutting boards, utensils and worktops. Do not use on varnished wood. Never put wooden boards in a dishwasher or leave them soaking.
Do I need oil as well?
Wood oil soaks in and helps prevent drying; Butter adds a water-resistant satin finish. Apply wood oil to pale or dry wood first, then apply Butter. Butter alone does not replace applying wood oil to a very dry board.
How do I restore dry or grey wood?
Wash with mild soap and dry completely overnight. Apply wood oil generously to every face and the end grain, leave overnight, then wipe off excess oil. Repeat for two or three days. Finish with a thin layer of Butter; wait a few minutes and buff.
