Kiln dried
Kiln dried wood has been dried in a controlled chamber to reach a target moisture range faster and more predictably than air drying alone.
What it means#
Kiln drying uses controlled heat, humidity, and airflow to reduce moisture content. Speed is part of it, but the real goal is a more predictable final range for indoor use.
Why buyers care#
A kiln-dried slab is usually closer to furniture-ready than a freshly sawn or air-dried slab. It still needs acclimation and proper construction, especially across wide live-edge boards.
What to check#
Confirm the target moisture range, whether the slab was equalised after drying, and how it has been stored since it left the kiln.
