Deforestation-free is a regulated claim about land-use history tied to the place where a commodity was produced.
For wood, the claim depends on geolocation and the applicable cut-off rules. It cannot be inferred from appearance, species or a general sustainability statement.
Treat it as an evidence-backed status. Certification may help with records, but it does not automatically settle every legal requirement.
