Questions
What is inside, and how should I store it?
100% purified white mineral oil of pharmaceutical grade (Ph. Eur.), with no added fragrance or colour. It does not spoil like olive or sunflower oil. Filled into bottles by hand in small batches in Bulgaria; every bottle carries a batch number. Keep tightly closed, away from heat and direct sunlight.
How often should I apply wood oil to my board?
Once a month, or when the wood looks pale or dry. Cover every face and the end grain, let the oil soak in, then wipe off excess. Never put wooden boards in the dishwasher or leave them soaking.
How do I care for a new board?
On new unfinished wood, apply oil 3–4 times in the first week. Let each application soak overnight, then wipe off excess. Follow with a thin layer of KORENA Butter beeswax balm if desired.
Can I use it on varnished wood?
Use on unfinished wood or wood previously treated with oil: cutting boards, thick wooden cutting boards, bowls, utensils and worktops. Never use on varnished wood. Wash with mild soap and warm water and let dry completely before applying wood oil.
Is it suitable for food-contact surfaces?
Yes. KORENA Oil is purified white mineral oil (Ph. Eur.), suitable for wooden food-contact surfaces after wiping off excess. It is odourless and tasteless and does not flavour food.
How do I restore a very dry board?
Wash with mild soap and dry completely overnight. Apply wood oil generously to every face and the end grain, leave overnight and wipe off excess. Repeat for 2–3 days until the wood stops looking pale. Finish with a thin layer of KORENA Butter beeswax balm.
Do I also need the KORENA Butter beeswax balm?
The wood oil soaks into the wood to help prevent drying. The KORENA Butter beeswax balm is optional and adds a water-resistant satin finish. Apply the wood oil first, wipe off excess, then apply a thin layer of the balm.
