Provenance is the documented history of wood from harvest through trade and processing.

Useful records connect the species and physical piece to its source, transport and current holder. Strong provenance makes that chain easier to check.

A story about where wood came from is not the same as evidence. Look for dates, identifiers and supporting documents that refer to the same material.
