Slab flattening brings a dried slab to an even plane and final thickness using a router sled, CNC, or wide-belt sander.
What it means#
Slab flattening removes twist, cup, and high spots from a dried slab. Makers use a router sled, CNC, planer mill, or wide-belt sander, then sand through finer grits.
Why buyers care#
The listed thickness is usually rough thickness, not final finished thickness. A slab with warp, checks, or deep saw marks may lose several millimetres before both faces are flat.
What to check#
Compare listed thickness with your target final thickness and joinery needs. Ask how flat the slab is now, and look at photos along the length. Keep allowance for surfacing, sanding, and any cleanup around defects or resin work.
