Geolocation (EUDR)

Geolocation under EUDR records the harvest plot coordinates, using points or polygons depending on plot size.

What it means#

Under Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, geolocation means latitude and longitude for the plot where the commodity was produced. For wood, this points to the harvest plot. Plots over 4 hectares need polygon boundaries.

Why buyers care#

Coordinates help connect a slab’s provenance to deforestation and legality checks. They are part of the records that travel from forest owner or sawmill through the wood passport and DDS.

What to check#

Check that the provenance record names the country of production and includes coordinates in the required form. For mixed sources, every relevant plot should be identified. Do not treat a vague region name as geolocation.
