Stability
Stability describes how little wood changes shape or size as moisture and temperature change.
Stable timber is easier to keep flat, but no solid wood is motionless. Species, grain direction, drying and board width all affect movement.
Good furniture design still allows the top to expand and contract across the grain. Stability is a comparison, not a guarantee.
