Hardwood
Hardwood comes from broad-leaved flowering trees such as oak, walnut, ash and cherry.
The name describes botanical group, not actual hardness. Balsa is a hardwood, while some softwoods can resist dents better than softer hardwood species.
Use density, Janka hardness, grain and the intended job when comparing species. The hardwood label alone does not predict performance.
