Defects and features
A crack is a visible separation in wood, usually following the grain.
The word is broad and can cover a small drying check or a deeper split. Position, depth and whether it reaches another face matter more than the label.
Inspect both faces and ends. Plan any trimming, bowties, filling or other stabilisation before laying out the project.
