Osmo TopOil is a microporous hardwax-oil finish made for wooden kitchen worktops, countertops, and tables — the surfaces that take daily contact with food, water, and wear. Based on natural plant oils and waxes, it soaks into the wood rather than sitting on top, so the finish will not crack, peel, flake, or blister, and a worn area can be re-oiled without sanding back to bare timber.

Two thin coats leave a warm, hard-wearing surface that resists wine, beer, coffee, tea, juice, milk, and water (tested to DIN 68861-1A — no water spots). It is food-safe once cured (EN 1186) and safe for children's toys (EN 71.3), which makes it a sound choice for the exact surfaces you prepare and eat on.

Choose your tone from six finishes: clear matt and clear satin let the natural grain lead, while white, terra, graphite, and acacia tints shift the wood's character while keeping the grain visible.

Coverage is roughly 24 m² per litre in a single coat, so a 500 ml tin covers about 12 m² per coat — most worktops need two. Apply the first coat thinly with a brush, the second with a cloth or pad, and allow 8–10 hours to dry between coats. Supplied in a 500 ml tin.

Is Osmo TopOil food-safe for kitchen worktops?
Yes. Once fully cured, TopOil is certified food-safe under EN 1186 and safe for children's toys under EN 71.3, so it suits worktops, chopping surfaces, and dining tables where food contact happens every day.
How many coats does TopOil need and how long does it dry?
Most worktops take two thin coats — the first applied with a brush, the second worked in with a cloth or pad. Allow 8 to 10 hours of drying between coats. A single coat is usually enough when renovating an already-oiled surface.
How much surface will a 500 ml tin cover?
Coverage is roughly 24 m² per litre in one coat, so a 500 ml tin covers about 12 m² per coat. As most worktops need two coats, plan for around 6 m² of finished surface per tin. Actual coverage varies with how porous the wood is.
What is the difference between the matt and satin tones?
Clear Matt (3058) and Clear Satin (3028) keep the wood's natural colour and differ only in sheen. The White, Terra, Graphite, and Acacia options add a transparent tint — Terra gives a dark-oak effect and Graphite a dark-grey one — while the grain stays visible throughout.
Can TopOil be used on surfaces other than worktops?
Yes. Although it is formulated for kitchen worktops and counters, the same hard-wearing, spill-resistant finish works well on dining and coffee tables, shelving, and other interior wood that sees regular contact.
