Anchorseal Classic is a water-based, wax-emulsion end-grain sealer that slows moisture loss from freshly cut wood, the single most effective way to stop end checks and splits as green logs and slabs dry.
When a tree is cut, the exposed end grain gives up moisture far faster than the faces. That uneven drying is what opens the radial cracks that ruin the most valuable part of a slab. Brushed onto the end grain while the wood is still green, Anchorseal forms a thin wax film that lets the piece dry slowly and evenly. U·C Coatings, who introduced the first end-grain sealer to the lumber industry in 1980, report up to 90% of end checks prevented when it is applied promptly and generously.
The formula is water-based and cleans up with water, and it is trusted on valuable timber and wood sculpture where checking or surface fungal staining would be costly. Apply a thick, uniform coat by brush, roller or sprayer to fully saturate the cut ends; on larger pieces a second coat while the first is still wet improves coverage. For delicate carvings or already-dry timber it can be thinned slightly with water for easier flow.
This is the protection step that belongs at the saw, applied the day a slab is cut, long before it reaches the workshop.
