Walnut Studio Desk, 1.80 m Single-Piece Top

One walnut desk, built in KORENA's own woodworking studio: a single-piece solid walnut top on two white drawer units, both included. It exists once.

The desktop is one continuous piece of solid walnut, 180 cm long, 49.5 cm deep and 60 mm thick. Natural cracks and shakes in the board were filled with black epoxy resin. The resin stabilises them and leaves dark lines that follow the grain, instead of disguising where the tree moved as it grew and dried. Knots and colour streaks were kept rather than cut away. They belong to this particular board, and removing them would have meant removing most of what makes the surface recognisably its own.

The top is sanded flat and finished with Osmo Top Oil, a hardwax oil. It soaks into the walnut rather than forming a film over it, so it does not peel or flake, and a worn patch can be re-oiled locally without sanding the whole top back to bare wood. The oil is food-safe once cured, which is the right standard for a surface that will hold coffee cups, laptops and elbows for years. KORENA stocks the same oil, so the desk can be maintained with exactly the finish it was built with.

The base is two IKEA ALEX drawer units in white, each 36 cm wide, 58 cm deep and 70 cm high, supplied new in their original packaging. That choice is deliberate: the money goes into the board, and the base stays a standard part that can be serviced, replaced or matched anywhere in Europe years from now. Together the two units give ten drawers under the top. Working height with the top in place is about 76 cm, and the whole desk weighs around 100 kg.

This is the first finished piece from the KORENA studio to go on sale, and it is a one-off. The buyer receives the desk in the photographs, shot in the maker's own room. The chair, the curtains and everything else in frame are not part of the sale. Once it is sold, this exact desk is gone.
